“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” 2012
In “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” (2012), Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who enjoys a quiet life in the Shire, is visited by Gandalf the wizard and a group of thirteen dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield. The dwarves are on a quest to reclaim their ancestral homeland, Erebor, which has been overtaken by the dragon Smaug. Gandalf and the dwarves believe that Bilbo, despite his initial reluctance, is the perfect burglar to assist them in their mission.
Bilbo reluctantly agrees to join the quest, and the group sets out on their journey. Their adventure begins with a dramatic encounter with three trolls who capture the company. Gandalf saves them by tricking the trolls into staying out until sunrise, turning them to stone. The company then finds themselves in the elven realm of Rivendell, where they receive guidance and support from Elrond and the elves.
As they continue their journey through the Misty Mountains, they are ambushed by goblins in the Goblin Tunnels. During their escape, Bilbo gets separated from the group and stumbles upon a mysterious ring in Gollum’s dark cave. The ring grants him the power of invisibility, which helps him escape from Gollum and the goblins.
The group travels next through the dangerous Mirkwood Forest, where they are captured by giant spiders and later rescued by the elves led by Thranduil. Tauriel, an elven warrior, becomes an important ally, and the group continues their journey to the Lonely Mountain.
The film concludes with the company nearing Erebor and preparing to confront Smaug. Bilboโs role in the quest becomes increasingly crucial as he grapples with his own growth and the responsibilities that come with his newfound bravery. The journey sets the stage for the continuing saga and the battles to come in the following films.
