The story follows Sancaka (played by Abimana Aryasatya), a young boy who grows up in the slums after his parents abandon him. His father, a factory worker, is killed during a strike, while his mother leaves him to find work, but never returns. Sancaka is left to survive on the streets alone, where he learns to defend himself and becomes increasingly distrustful of others, focusing only on his own survival.
Years later, Sancaka works as a security guard and lives a solitary, quiet life. However, his neighborhood is plagued by violence, corruption, and crime, and he often witnesses injustices but chooses to avoid involvement, fearing the consequences. One fateful night, Sancaka is struck by lightning during a storm, and he miraculously survives, discovering that the lightning has given him superhuman powers, including the ability to control electricity.

As the city descends further into chaos, with political corruption, gang violence, and the mysterious criminal mastermind Pengkor (played by Bront Palarae) manipulating events behind the scenes, Sancaka is forced to confront his fears and step up as a protector. Pengkor has a plan to overthrow the government and unleash an army of orphaned children who have been brainwashed to do his bidding.
Despite his reluctance, Sancaka embraces his destiny as Gundala, the lightning-powered hero. He dons a suit and begins using his newfound abilities to fight crime and protect the innocent. As Gundala, he faces off against Pengkorโ€™s army and other dangerous enemies, all while grappling with his personal demons and his responsibility as a hero.
